Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell will receive the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for their acclaimed song “What Was I Made For?” from the film Barbie.
The film awards will take place on Jan. 4 while the festival will run through Jan. 15.
“We are thrilled to present the prestigious Chairman’s Award to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for their celebrated original song ‘What Was I Made For?’ from Barbie,” Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi says. “Billie and Finneas, with their unparalleled talent, have created a beautiful and ethereal ballad that perfectly evokes the poignancy of the journey Margot Robbie’s Barbie takes in the film. The Palm Springs International Film Festival proudly honors these visionary artists for their award-worthy musical contribution.”

O’Connell and Eilish, who are siblings, wrote “What Was I Made For” together, and Eilish performs it. The two have written many songs together, with both of Eilish’s albums written, produced and recorded entirely by the duo. She made history as the youngest artist to receive nominations in all the major categories at the 62nd Grammy Awards and is also the youngest artist to write and record a James Bond song, “No Time to Die,” which won an Academy Award for best original song. She is currently working on her third studio album.
O’Connell is an Academy Award and Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and composer, and has written original scores for The Fallout and Vengeance.
The festival previously announced that Emma Stone would receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, while Cillian Murphy would receive the corresponding actor award. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon will be honored with this year’s Vanguard Award, while the Director of the Year Award will be bestowed upon Greta Gerwig. Jeffrey Wright will receive the Career Achievement Award, while Carey Mulligan is set to be honored with the International Star Award, Actress. Colman Domingo is receiving the Spotlight Award, Actor. Da’Vine Joy Randolph is being honored with the Breakthrough Performance Award while Danielle Brooks is receiving the Spotlight Award, Actress.
